Under The Brim
This is a podcast by a rural woman for rural women!
It's the stories behind how women in rural towns have created incredible lives that they may not have seen coming.
It's not about their accomplishments or outward success, but about who they had to become to live this life. It's about challenging and changing their beliefs, having to trust themselves and the path that was unfolding.
These women have seen first hand how, sometimes, life asks us to be someone before we feel ready. The women in this podcast took the challenge and are thriving in a life they LOVE!

In this episode I chat with Brenda, a born-and-bred Dalby girl who absolutely loves life here with her husband Ted.
When their son Zach was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a little boy, it changed their family’s world. But out of that experience came something incredibly positive — 18 years ago, Brenda and her family teamed up with the local rugby club to create Jelly Baby Rugby Day, raising money and awareness for juvenile diabetes.
What started as a small community fundraiser has grown every year, with this year, 2026, being their biggest yet — raising an incredible $40,000.
Today, Brenda is sharing what it was really like to navigate Zach’s diagnosis as a mum, how their family responded, and how one of the hardest things they experienced became something that has brought an entire community together.

I’ve just come back from retreat, and there were three things I heard again and again from women in their 40s and 50s.
Three seemingly simple things about the friction we all face in our lives that prevent us from living the life we want to live.
I reveal what I believe is actually going on for these women and how you, if you relate, you can start to make a change.
In this episode, I’m sharing what I heard, what I think is really underneath what they said and ONE question I think is worth asking yourself if you’re ready to step out of feeling stuck or disconnected.
This episode is exciting and inspiring! Enjoy.

What starts with a broken makeup bag turns into a creative business built by a daughter and her mum, stitched together through family, creativity and a love of making things by hand.
In this episode I chat with Megan about the journey behind Em & Meg—from a family tradition of sewing, to their first market stall, to building a sustainable handmade business across regional Victoria while she continues to work full-time as a nurse.
We talk about what it really takes to build something of your own alongside a career, the realities of running a business in a regional community, working with family, navigating the doubts and financial challenges of those early years, and the joy that comes from creating something people genuinely love.
For Megan and her mum, thriving isn't about building the biggest business. It's about happiness, connection and finding something that brings them joy.

What happens when women have the opportunity to slow down, listen to their bodies and reconnect with themselves?
In this episode of Under the Brim, I chat with a passionate pelvic release practitioner, body worker, yoga teacher and meditation teacher who is bringing much-needed wellbeing services to rural communities—making them accessible to women who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience them.
We talk openly about women's bodies, pelvic health, movement, meditation and the importance of creating space to actually listen to what our bodies are telling us. It's a down-to-earth conversation about women's wellbeing, rural life and what can happen when we give ourselves permission to pause, reconnect and care for ourselves.

I'm not behind the microphone asking the questions today —I'm the one answering them.
In this very personal episode of Under the Brim, my friend turns the questions on me and invites me to share the story behind the life I've come to know.
I talk honestly about how I ended up living in a rural town, the defining moments that shaped me, and what life really looks like behind the scenes.
There are stories I've shared many times, and others I've rarely spoken about. It's vulnerable, honest and a little uncomfortable at times—but it's also a chance for you to get to know me.

What happens when a woman decides to back herself—even when the odds are against her?
In this special solo episode of Under the Brim, I share the story of Edna Jessop, a remarkable rural Australian woman whose courage, determination and willingness to back herself created a legacy that still deserves to be remembered.
It's a story about grit, resilience and refusing to let circumstances decide what is possible. But more than that, it's a story about a quality I believe every woman can cultivate: the courage to trust yourself, take the opportunity and back yourself—even when you don't have all the answers.
Edna's story isn't just history. It's a reminder for all of us that sometimes the biggest thing standing between where we are and what might be possible is whether we're willing to believe in ourselves enough to take the next step.

In this episode of Under the Brim, I sit down with Honey who believes there is so much more to being photographed than getting the perfect image.
Living on 10 acres, growing her own food and deeply connected to nature and the seasons, she brings that same grounded perspective to her work with women in business—helping them show up online as themselves, rather than as a polished version of who they think they should be.
We talk about nature, the seasons of women's lives, learning to love yourself in front of the camera, and what it really means to let yourself be seen.
And she leaves us with a simple reminder that stopped me in my tracks: take photos of yourself. Not to post. Not for anyone else. Just so you exist in your story.
I love that!
